How to find one and what to look for BEFORE you join.
Most people don't realize that the only time to select an #advisor (aka #mentor, #leader, #upline, etc.) is at the time of enrollment.
So it's SUPER important to make sure you're setting yourself up with the best support you can get even before you join.
I am the admin of a large Facebook group for Reps and very often I see unattached Reps join the group and comment that they are so sad they didn't join a team. Without an advisor, they can post their questions for the group, but they long for that one-on-one support and genuine encouragement that comes from someone who is invested in their success.

And it's true--having the right support makes all the difference.
So what exactly does an Avon Advisor do?
Your advisor is like a helpful friend in the business.
Someone with whom you can brainstorm ideas
Someone you can turn to when you have a question (and can check your account to give specific answers)
Someone who can point you to resources to help you boost your efforts
Someone who can help you goal set to achieve what you want
Someone who has walked in your shoes--who knows what's it's like to build an Avon business and can speak from experience about what has worked for them
What doesn't an Avon Advisor do?
Your advisor cannot build your business for you.
Your advisor is not your boss.
Your advisor is not authorized to make changes to your Avon account. (No worries! They can guide you to the right place if you ever need help with that.)
"Your advisor is like a helpful friend in the business. [...] Someone who has walked in your shoes--who knows what's it's like to build an Avon business and can speak from experience about what has worked for them."
In searching for an advisor, you want someone who can help you build they type of business you want.
Questions to ask:
Do they seem genuine? Is this someone you'd like to work with?
As with anything, you want to be around people that you respect and who respect you. Feel free to ask them questions about their story and what parts of their buisness are most important to them. If you can find common ground, it gives you a great basis upon which to build!
Do they listen to what you want? Or do they try and force their goals on you?
The beauty of joining Avon is that you are in control of how you run your business. It could be a casual side hustle, a full-on career, or anything in between. You want an advisor who wants to support you in however you'd like to build.
You can tell where someone is coming from by the questions they ask you. Are they interested in what you want? How can they help you reach your goals if they haven't taken the time to hear them?
How can they help you reach your goals if they haven't taken the time to hear them?
Just like with my customers, I listen first. You don't want someone who is pushing their goals on you. Early on, my Avon advisor (aka my mama) explained to me that if we help people get what they want, we would also get what we want. And it's never failed.
Don't get me wrong--I am one of the most goal-oriented people you'll ever meet. But I know that my goals must be my goals, and yours yours.
How do they support and empower their team members?
As an advisor, I think of myself as a helpful friend and lead from a place of service--
what can I do to help our new team members enjoy their new business? How can I set them up to be successful right away? What resources can I collect or create to share with them?
You want someone who will help you find tools and techniques that will boost your efforts. But that doesn't mean that your advisor has to be an expert in all things business! One advantage of being on a large team is that there are opportunities to share knoweldge and ideas with others who may work very differently from you. Advisors can always take your questions and then pull from the community to help you find what will work best for you.
How engaged are they in their business?
You absolutely want someone who is reliable. If you have a question, it's comforting
to know that there's someone you can reach. Even if they don't know the answer off hand, you want to know that they are able and willing to go find the answer you need.
Think of your Avon Advisor, then, as a gym buddy. They don't have to be superhuman or perfect, but they need to show up and spot you. They don't have to have been doing this their whole life, but they do need to be as committed to growth as you are.
